Many agencies will set-up their clients’ Google Analytics accounts with the knowledge that their partnership may not last a lifetime. Instead of owning the Google Analytics accounts themselves, they will set up the accounts in a manner that allows their clients to have ownership with them. Should one of the parties decide to end the partnership, the clients will be able to keep all the data they have gathered throughout the relationship for themselves. They will not have to worry about having the data transferred over to them from an external account, which can impede their ability to seamlessly transition to a new agency.

Unfortunately, there are also a number of companies that do not practice this. It could be from ignorance or an attempt to make it more difficult for clients to leave them. Others just aren’t interested in putting in the work to make extra accounts. As a client, it is usually best to avoid working with these agencies unless you’re willing to take a big risk. How to Set Up a Google Analytics Account if You Are a Client

If you are a business owner or client of an agency, you can ask them to help you set up a Google Analytics account on your own Google account rather than with the agency. You will want to meet them in-person or through a video conference call so you can follow the steps and ask any questions. Some marketing agencies can even use a software program to take control of your computer and create the account remotely.

You can either use an existing Google account or create a new one to be used solely for Google Analytics. If you use an existing Google account, remember that you will have to share your password with the agency you are working with.

How to Set Up a Google Analytics Account if You Are an Agency

Most clients will be fine with you setting up their Google Analytics account remotely. If they want to see the process of setting up an account for themselves, you can also meet with them in-person or through a video call.
